"The best parts of Diva: getting
it done early and having no excuses for putting it off all day, exercising
with friends who motivate me, being outside." ~ Betty
In the two years that i have been in the Diva Bootcamp program, I have
lost weight and gained strength and definition. I also do personal training
with Sherma twice a week. This has made a huge difference. As a Diva who
walks, not runs, I can truly say that this is a great program. You get out
of it what you put into it. Sherma, you are a great support and your
encouragement always keeps me going. Thank you. ~ Meg
“As a newcomer to Diva Fitness, I have to say how welcoming and supportive
the ladies have been! I immediately felt the camaraderie that exists as we
all work together to better ourselves. The first day, I thought I might puke
or die. The second day, I thought I might pass out. The third day, I could
barely stand and almost overdosed on Advil. The fourth day, I realized I
would live and whatever didn't kill me, would make me stronger."

“You've worked hard enough with me that I've really finally internalized
that I have to "move" at least once a day, and if I skip one day, I don't
skip anymore that week. I just ran in the Bulldog 5k, a fundraiser at St.
Bridget's School, where my kids go and I - somewhat humorously -- came in
first in my age group!!! With a very slow time, but hey -- I finished it and
have a goal. The race got me back to "Yes, I have to train well and
consistently for the Richmond 1/2 Marathon in November." ~

I have never been athletic, and have always had a hard time motivating
myself to exercise. DIVA’s gives me the group setting I need to succeed,
without the pressures of a die hard group of athletes to overwhelm me… and
the ladies are some of the most encouraging I have ever met. I now find
myself getting excited on my way to class in the mornings!” ~ jod
This has been my lifesaver!!! I work full time, have two active, school
aged children and once I get home from work, all my attention is devoted to
my kids. Diva’s Bootcamp fits into my schedule – granted 5:30 am is a bit
early but once you do it, you are done for the day! The group is fabulous –
great, fun women. Sherma is tough but very motivational and encouraging. If
I didn’t do this, I would be big as a barn and mean as a snake. This keeps
me fit and sane. Thank you, Sherma! ~

I began Diva Fitness Bootcamp shortly after
my 60th birthday. I have lost pounds and inches, and gained strength,
confidence and an overall feeling of wellness. Sherma pushes us to
be the best we can. I believe it has truly made
a difference not only physically, but also, emotionally.

Wow! That is what I say when I look at the picture hanging on my bathroom
wall. It’s a picture of me, I do not have many pictures taken of me during
that time in my life - you might know the one, your toddler playing next to
you, so happy to be a mom, not real excited to have your picture taken - I
was over weight - on the verge of having high blood pressure and my
cholesterol was not near the 'good' numbers. That was me! Once the second
child came along, it got worse! Then, reality set in, would I get to see my
children grow up – if I did not change my habits? I started out slowly –
walking around my neighborhood and changing my eating habits – sorta. That
helped me loose some weight. I started to get excited. I signed up for the
Monument Avenue 10k – 4 months away, I can do that 6.2 miles. Ha! Who was I
kidding – I could not even run 1 mile without thinking that I was going to
pass out!
Then it happened – I went to a cock-tail party one Tuesday in January.
Started talking to a group of women and the dreaded exercise conversation
came up. I looked at these women and thought; I am so out of my league. One
of the women invited to me to go to ‘DIVA Bootcamp’ with them the following
morning at 5:30am. I am a risk taker and thought I would give it a try. The
next morning the alarm went off at 4:44am and I rolled out of bed, much to
my husband’s dismay! I put on the warmest clothes that I could find for 36
degree weather and went. We started out by running or walking or better yet,
crawling in my case to warm-up. We did all sorts of great different
activities; jumping-jacks, running through cones, squat passes, sit-ups and
more. Wait – this is only a 1 hour class, I thought that I was there for at
least 3 hours and the thought of walking to my car – someone please help me!
Somehow, I made it to my car. I was sore, a good sore. I had to join! These
women are awesome, nice and so welcoming! I had to have what they had! I
called Sherma and we closed the deal for me to sta rt the following Monday.
I can still look back when I could not run 1 mile nor do 10 sit-ups or even
thank about doing 1 push-up and my body being sore and starting to change.
It has now been 1 year since that cold January morning. I tell my friend and
Sherma “Thank You – you saved my life”. I am 43 years old and in better
health that I have ever been in. I am even training to run my first ½
marathon this March. The changes in my life are incredible; weight under
control, physically fit and motivated to stay healthy! No more high blood
pressure or cholesterol. It might sometimes be hard to get out of the bed at
4:44am and I might sometimes think that I need the sleep and then I
remember. These are my friends, my support system, my coaches and my family
does not like me if you do not go to Diva! My children remind me often – “My
mom is a Diva and we are SO proud of her”! The best was when we were at
dinner the other night and my two older children were talking about what
they wanted to be when they grew up and the youngest at the tender age of 5
said - “I want to be like Mommy – a Diva”!
The old picture – it still hangs on the bathroom mirror to remind me, I
never want to go back to being that person. I am strong, proud and love
playing with my family! Thank you Sherma – I owe it all to Diva Bootcamp!
